Yachtshare celebrates its first anniversary at the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron.

In July, Yachtshare will celebrate its first anniversary at the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron. The fleet of syndicated yachts has been sailing from Manly Harbour for more than eleven years and relocated to the Squadron in 2017.

Yachtshare is a shared boating program that offers boating enthusiasts all the benefits of having a yacht without all the hassle and cost. Sailors can purchase an equity share of their preferred style of vessel, and the Yachtshare team manages and maintains the boat on their behalf. The fleet consists of eight privately owned monohull yachts, catamarans and motor cruisers from 36 – 50 feet. The program provides a walk-on/walk-off service that makes boating easy, affordable and fun. Shared boating is suitable for experienced sailors as well as those looking for a pathway to the cruising and yachting lifestyle. Yachtshare includes a comprehensive induction and training program to ensure that skippers can use their vessel safely and with confidence in all conditions.

The relocation to RQYS Marina has been a success for Yachtshare, the Squadron and the shareowners. Yachtshare’s Directors, Anton Prange and Barry Pares, share the Squadron’s objective to promote participation in the sport of sailing and recreational boating. All shareowners are full members of the Squadron and enjoy using the fantastic hospitality and facilities available to members. Many shareowners participate in WAGS and other local regattas with the Jeanneau 36i “Inspiration” winning first place at the 40th Anniversary of WAGS in May. Shared boating provides the ideal pathway from dinghy sailing to keelboat yachting and the cruising lifestyle. The program is well suited for families, couples and all kinds of boating enthusiasts.

It is often asked how a shareowner compares to a normal boat owner. Just like traditional boat owners, shareowners have a love for the water and their boat, enjoy entertaining family and friends and are active participants of the sailing community as Squadron members. Unlike traditional boat owners, they do not spend countless hours maintaining, cleaning and servicing their boats. Yachtshare cleans, refuels, services and maintains their boat so they can spend more time on the water and less dealing with the hassles and expense of owning a boat. It is far too common to see boats that never move or are neglected. The Yachtshare fleet optimises boat usage through a fair and flexible online calendar. The fleet is maintained to the highest standard by the leading service providers in the harbour precinct to ensure worry-free and safe boating.
The sharing economy is growing and to meet the demand, three new boats have been added to the Yachtshare fleet in 2018. The new boats are the Aquila 44 Catamaran “Temptation”, the Hanse 505 “Reflection” and a brand new Beneteau Oceanis 41.1 will arrive from France in November.
